Academic Issues

Lack of information in English, problems with course registration, difficulties in reaching certain university officials, ununified regulations for using dictionaries during exams, classes are taught in Dutch while they were announced to be in English. These are just some of the issues that we as international student encounter.

Do you face any difficulties, don't hesitate to write us an E-mail ) academic-officer@isn-rleiden.nl). We will use our contacts within the university to make a change. ISN-R is YOUR Voice!!!

Academic Information Book

The unifying of rules within all the different faculties has been a big problem experienced by international students. How is it that international students studying Psychology, for example, are allowed to get extra time during exams, whereas international students studying Natural Sciences aren't?

To us, this seems unfair and illogical. Are students allowed dictionaries? This, also, is something that not only differs between faculties, but within departments themselves.

These, and other similar issues, are things that we have started to fight for. What exactly is ISN-R doing for you?

Already done:

- We have composed a 3-page list of questions.

- With support of Mr 't Hart, Deputy Director ICS, we have interviewed all study advisors.

Plan of action:

We are still fighting for more clarity, transparency and unity of rules. Some study advisors have specified whether or not specific things are allowed for international students (eg. extra time or not), whereas others have clearly stated that this needs to be personally arranged with them. The problems, issues and solutions that have come up, as well as answers to questions, were written down and are being compiled in an Academic Information Book.
