The event we have all been waiting for is just around the corner...
Get Cultural. Get Cultured Once again ISN-R is preparing for the BIGGEST single day event in all of Leiden! The upcoming summer will mark the 4th annual Cultural Festival and it will be BETTER than ever! Students can represent their countries during the 2010 Leiden Cultural Festival organized by ISN-R on Sunday, June, 6th 2010. This is the most popular, diverse and fun international event in Leiden with more than a thousand visitors each year. It includes informational booths, delicious snacks and drinks, workshops and performances from all around the world. This whole day event provides the opportunity for students to show their national pride and spread the word about the uniqueness of their culture. By participating, students can engage their creativity, create lasting bonds with others and practice their leadership skills. It is the best combination of an exciting social activity and a valuable resume builder. Organizing such an event is lots of fun and a great opportunity to meet new people and learn about different cultures. If you are interested in becoming a part of the organizing committee or contributing a country team, please email festival@isn-rleiden.nl .
Info Sessions and Warming Up Activities You can learn how you can get involved by attending one of the information sessions. The first one will take place on March, 19th 2010 at 6:00 pm in the Common Room at Plexus Student Center. Snacks and drinks will be provided. And for those eager to start their night with a blast, cheap cocktails will await you in the Common Room across Plexus. Is there a better way to start your night out?

CULTURAL FESTIVAL CALLS. LEIDEN ANSWERS. Brunella Costagliola, Colourful, cheerful and lively. This was the mood and the atmosphere at the Cultural Festival that ISN-R organized last Sunday in Leiden. Despite the rain many people participated in the third edition of the Festival, grasping the unique occasion of sampling different cuisines from throughout the world. Students were giving the opportunity to set up booths representing their countries; they offered a taste of their cultures, such as typical gifts, food and drinks. It was very entertaining to go from drinking Sangria at the Spanish booth to tasting bruschette and tiramisù at the Italian one; from looking at matryoshkas at the Russian stand to sipping Venezuelan rum. It was amusing to watch and walk through the multi-coloured Indonesian, Pakistani and Hungarian stands. Moreover, there was the chance to get hair braided and a henna tattoo. At 18.00 the show started: on the stage many groups performed typical dances from several countries, such as the capoeira, a Brazilian dance, and hip hop. Very touching and warming was the welcome salute in different languages, form Korean to Sweden and English, given by the board members of the Cultural Festival Organization, who once again proved their ability to reunite so many people with different cultural backgrounds, setting a friendly mood and underlining the well-known saying, it`s a small world after all. Furthermore, the Festival provided an exceptional occasion for the Dutch and the international students at Leiden University to get together and have a good time. The Festival highlighted even more the key elements and believes that were the foundations of the Week of Diversity that took place last week. June 1, 2009
